Southeast Regional Championships in Duluth, GA - May 23-24, 2009

This was the first Regional tournament and event out of state that Robbie attended. Weigh-ins & check-ins were Friday, the Greco tournament was Sat & the Freestyle tournament was on Sunday. The trip was good and the hotel was nice and very close to the arena. Robbie received his package at check-in. He's been waiting on it for weeks (he purchased with his birthday $$). The package had both red & blue NC singlets (required at the tournament), a Regional T-shirt and matching shorts and a bag. He immediately changed right in the hall as soon as got it. He was very excited! He then weighed in at 72.3 lbs. Sat was the Greco tournament. Robbie received a bad draw and was placed in the bracket that was loaded with good wrestlers. He lost both of his matches and was knocked out of the tournament by double elimination. This prevented him from having the opportunity to wrestle for any other position. The two boys that won 2nd & 3rd (from Tenn & GA) were the ones that Robbie wrestled. It was a tough day. Sunday was a new day. He was pumped and ready to go. He won his first 3 matches and was now up against the same two boys from Greco again. And once again the other 2 boys from Tenn & GA won. So, Robbie took 4th place in the Freestyle tournament. A much better day. The competition was tough. The other boys from NC were having tough days too. Some of our best NC wrestlers didn't place at all. We did have one from NC to win both styles. Overall it was a good trip and a great learning experience.
